A false booking is a reservation never meant to be kept: an invented name, borrowed contact details, a prank, or a door its author never intended to open.
Every reservation is, in a sense, an introduction. A guest offers a name, a way of being reached and a room, and on the strength of those three things a woman crosses the city at night. A false booking is one in which any of them was untrue from the start.
The house counts four kinds: a name the person does not hold; a telephone number or account that belongs to someone else; a reservation placed as a prank, a wager or a test; and the no-show who made the request never intending to be behind the door when she arrived. Intent is what unites them. A guest whose flight was diverted and who writes to say so has cancelled rather than deceived, and the ordinary cancellation policy applies to that guest.
Three things follow. The office files the reservation along with each name, number and account that was used for it. It shares those details with other reputable Amsterdam houses, whose therapists are then warned before any lobby is crossed. And, when circumstances call for it, it reports the matter to the relevant authorities. Whether a deposit was paid changes none of these steps.
Forty-five women walk into unfamiliar hotels on this house's behalf, alone and often late, along corridors they are seeing for the first time. Some of those buildings have a doorman and a night manager; others have a code on the street door and nobody at all. A false reservation costs her the evening at the very least. The record exists so that the same name does not do it twice, anywhere in the city.
Anyone who reserves as themselves and answers the door will never encounter any of this, and need give it no thought. The written thread of a WhatsApp booking is part of what keeps such cases rare, and the deposit asked of every first reservation is another part.
