Discretion, the five-star standard
Discretion, as practised here, means a quiet arrival, a room left as it was found, and a reservation nobody outside the guest's own thread hears about.
Hotels promise discretion as a quality of their staff: whatever is seen is not repeated. The house treats it as a matter of arrangement, so that there is very little to see in the first place. Each part of a visit is planned with that in mind.
Reception
Reception belongs to the hotel, and the building's rules for visitors apply to her exactly as they apply to anyone else who calls on a resident. The house has no arrangement with any hotel and asks its staff for nothing. The front desk entry describes the visitor rules guests meet most often.
The corridor
A single bag, a direct walk to the lift, a door that opens promptly and closes softly. In a hotel corridor at night, that is indistinguishable from the ordinary comings and goings of guests.
The room in the morning
The linens she lays down and the towels she uses leave in her bag. Furniture moved for space is returned to its place. Housekeeping finds a room in which a guest slept, and nothing more.
The thread
The reservation lives in a message thread on the guest's own phone, not in an inbox or a shared calendar. The house does not ask the reason for a stay or the name of an employer, and a guest who lends a phone in meetings may prefer to silence the thread's notifications for the evening.
